Victory and double podium in Spielberg

Young driver with intermezzo at the Histo Cup

Last weekend a new challenge awaited Yannik Brandt on the Red-Bull-Ring in Spielberg. The young driver started at the Histo Cup with a Leon Cupra TCR and proved his talent. In the end he achieved a victory in one of the races on Saturday.

“We want to use the weekend as preparation for the Audi Sport TT Cup. The Seat is a great race car and a good basis to collect racing experience”, Yannik revealed before the start. He drove within the framework of the Histo Cup, where numerous different classes started in one race. That way, Yannik also had to compete against Porsche 911 GT3.

He already had a lot of fun during the rainy free trainings and drove top three times. He was able to tie in with this during qualifying. On the wet track he showed great control of his vehicle and achieved fourth starting position for the first race. This then started behind the safety car: Yannik kept the strong competition at bay throughout the course of the race and caused a photo-finish. He drove forward to third position during the last bend. “That was a great feeling. I drove past a Porsche GT3 with my considerably slower car and got a place on the podium”, the 16-year-old rejoiced afterwards. In addition to third place on the overall list of rankings he also ended up as the winner of his class.

On Sunday on the now dry track the cars with stronger HP had a considerable advantage. Yannik was able to prove his potential once again though. He started into the race from eighth position, then temporarily lost some ground though. “I had to avoid a possible accident, but was then able to fight my way forward to ninth place again”, the German-Swiss said at the finish line. As third winner of his class he was on the podium again: “This was a great weekend for me. I gained lots of experiences on the track. Starting here was helpful for the final races of the TT Cup. I’d like to thank my team Target Competition for the great cooperation and perfect support.”

Yannik is already going to go on next weekend. The sixth event of the Audi Sport TT Cup is going to take place on the Nurburgring within the framework of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM). In three weeks he is then going to travel to Spielberg for the brand cup.
