Zandvoort brings disappointment to Yannik

Good performance goes unrewarded – falling out on Sunday

After a long summer break Yannik Brandt travelled to the next event of the Audi Sport TT Cup to Zandvoort with high expectations. On the dune track at the North Sea, the German-Swiss fully attacked again and showed a strong performance. Unfortunately he was brought down on Sunday by an overeager opponent.

Yannik Brandt already had a lot of fun last year with his Formula 4 race car on the track in Zandvoort and he travelled to the half-time race of the Audi Sport TT Cup accordingly motivated. “The track’s characteristics are unique. It’s a lot of fun to drive here; the track still has its old charm. The bends and mountain passages are great to drive”, said the 16-year-old euphorically.

The start into the racing events was accordingly successful. After a busy free training, Yannik finished qualifying on the starting positions four and two for the two ranked races. “At the end of the training there unfortunately was a red flag. Maybe more would have been possible otherwise. But I was still able to show that I’m able to drive among the front field at the Audi Sport TT Cup once again”, said the Zurich resident contently.

The first race unfortunately didn’t go so smoothly though. Yannik experienced difficult 30 minutes and wasn’t able to fully match the speed of the front field 100%. During the course of the race he lost two more places and finally came in on the sixth place: “Even though it wasn’t bad, things didn’t work perfectly somehow. Now we’ll have to improve for the second race.”

Yannik achieved a perfect start into the race on Sunday from the first starting row. Unfortunately, this was finished for him after only a few meters, which he later explained: “During the chicane, one of my opponents drove into my car. I then had to drive to the pit and forfeit. That was really disappointing. With this starting position I had every chance of ending up on the podium. Now I want to forget this day quickly and fully attack again on the Nurburgring.”

The next race of the Audi Sport TT Cup is going to take place from September 8th – 9th on the Nurburgring. After the 24h race in May, the brand cup is then going to take place in the Eifel for the second time.
