Yannik impresses on the Norisring

Young driver strong at the Audi Sport TT Cup again

Last weekend a special challenge awaited Yannik Brandt. The German-Swiss drove his first race on a city track on the Norisring in Nuremberg. The rookie strengthened his place among the top field of the Audi Sport TT Cup due to a strong performance.

Yannik Brandt has been among the fastest newcomers from the beginning of his first season at the Audi Sport TT Cup and highlighted his performance at the third racing weekend in Nuremberg as well. The Norisring is the only city track on the racing calendar of the brand cup and Yannik had respect for the 2,3km long race track even before the start: “I’m very impressed. During the track walk I was able to get a first feel for the track. It’s very narrow and you can’t afford any mistakes. It’s going to be an exciting weekend.”

The 16-year-old found his rhythm very quickly during free training and secured the great second position on the high-speed track in the heart of Nuremberg. He was similarly strong during qualifying. Yannik achieved starting positions three and two for the races. “I’m very satisfied with qualifying. I now have good starting positions from the first and second starting rows”, the rookie summed up.

The stands were filled up for the first ranked race in the afternoon. More than 120.000 viewers followed the events between Dutzendteich and Grundig Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. Yannik achieved a good start into the race right away and established himself among the top field. After 25 thrilling racing minutes he crossed the finish line on the great fourth place and collected important championship points. “After the start I lost my third position and gave everything until the end to stand on the podium again. In the end my result is very satisfying though and makes me look forward to Sunday”, said Yannik in his interview

Things got exciting during the second race then. From the first starting row, Yannik had every chance of standing on the podium. But after the first half of the race there was a considerable collision which caused debris and oil on the track. Yannik slipped on these and turned. Therefore he unfortunately only reached the finish line on 11th place and was a little disappointed: “The speed was right for the top three. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough this time.”

The Audi Sport TT Cup is now going to take a summer break and is going to continue in Dutch Zandvoort from August 19th – 20th.
