Rookie points at his debut in Italy

Kick-off to the Italian Formula 4 in Misano

The season kick-off to the Italian Formula 4 Championship took place on the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli last weekend. Forch-resident Yannik Brandt started as a newcomer and was able to gain his first points in the rookie valuation right away.

Only a few days after the official test days of the ADAC Formula 4, Yannik Brandt was back behind the wheel of his racecar. This time the race in a Formula car awaited the Swiss newcomer. The kick-off to the Italian Formula 4 Championship took place on the 4,2km long Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. 41 drivers started there and drove thrilling races in changing weather conditions.

Qualifying started on Friday with challenging weather conditions. Yannik came in 30th and was thereby on a safe course towards the finale. Until then he had to survive two pre-races though. Unfortunately the first race ended more quickly than expected. One of Yannik’s opponents overestimated himself during a slow phase on the wet track and crashed into the rookie’s rear end. Due to this he had to end the race after only three laps and was accordingly disappointed at the finish line: “I was very excited about my first Formula race. It’s really unfortunate that it has ended so quickly now.”

The second race went considerably better though. In beaming sunshine, Yannik was able to gain a couple of positions and came in on the great 19th place. In addition to his top 20 placement he also gained his first points in the rookie valuation. However, a small setback followed right away. In the summation of both races, the Lechner Racing Team driver was only on 37th place and thereby missed qualifying for the finale by just one place. “That’s how tough motorsport can be, but you have to learn to deal with this too. The speed was right, especially during the second race, which makes me feel very positively. The whole team did a great job. Without the falling-out that wasn’t my fault I would have entered the finale, which was my self-appointed goal”, the 15-year-old said in the final interview.

The next race for the newcomer is already going to be next weekend. He is then going to start at the kick-off to the ADAC Formula 4 in Oschersleben. After the good test drives, Yannik now wants to tie in with his performance: “The cards are going to be dealt anew. It’s going to be important to gain experiences and as many racing kilometers as possible again.” All three races from Oschersleben are going to be broadcast live on the sports channels Sport 1 and Sport 1+ as well as via online live stream.
