Yannik Brandt is ready for his Formula 4 premiere

Season beginning in Italian Misano

Next weekend it’s time for the young Forch-resident Yannik Brandt to celebrate his racing premiere in Formula 4. After a year filled with numerous test kilometers, it’s going to get serious now. In Italian Misano, the kick-off to a new era for the Swiss is going to take place.

Yannik Brandt looks back on four successful years in kart racing. In 2012, 11 years old, he sat down in a kart for the first time and became one of the fastest drivers in Switzerland – he earned lots of victories and titles. In 2016 a new phase is waiting for the 15-year-old. Yannik is going to start in Formula 4 for the first time. During the last season he and his team Lechner Racing already did a lot of test drives in the 160HP racecar. “I feel ready for the next step”, says Yannik prior to the season kick-off.

He already met his opponents for the first time during the past two days in Oschersleben. The official test drives of the ADAC Formula 4 took place in the Motorsport Arena – 37 drivers started there. Yannik was among the fastest rookies from the beginning and finished the two days on the great 18th place. “It was a new experience for me to be on the track with so many other cars. You have to position yourself precisely to catch a free round”, revealed the Youngster.

In addition to fast lap times it was important to gain experiences. With his team Lechner Racing from Austria he worked on the setup of his Formula 4 racecar and got faster continuously. “We’ve considerably reduced the backlog. The field is really closely together, two tenth of a second can already cost you up to six positions. It’s going to be really important to catch a good lap during qualifying”, Yannik continued.

The newcomer’s goal is clear: Yannik wants to qualify for all races right away and position himself among the top of the rookie list of rankings. Before the kick-off to the ADAC Formula 4 is going to take place from April 15th-17th, Yannik is already going to start at his first Formula race next weekend. The kick-off to the Italian Championship is going to take place in Misano. “Depending on the course of events we plan on starting in both championships. Every racing kilometer is important to me and both fields are very strongly manned. I can hardly wait for my first racing kilometers”, he rejoices. The Italian Formula 4 Championship consists of seven events all in all.

The ADAC Formula 4 is going to take place on German, Dutch and Austrian race tracks eight times. The race on the Lausitzring is going to take place within the framework of the German Touring Car Masters and the second event in Oschersleben is going to take place in collaboration with the TCR International Series. All races of the ADAC Formula 4 are going to be broadcast live and in full length on the sports channel Sport 1.
